Youngsters excel at state assessments

The state assessments, which certain grade levels are required to take, are one of many gages used to measure the level of education in Silver Lake. The initial assessment results last spring stated that the then fifth graders did not achieve the standard of excellence; however, the final results recently released proved the fifth graders did not disappoint.

Last year, the fifth grade students, now sixth graders, took the reading assessments and reached the standard of excellence.

For their feat, the students were rewarded with a "Standard of Excellence" T-shirt and will have a pizza party.

Ronda Dewey, principal of the grade school, was very pleased by the results of the state assessments.

“The students and teachers did an excellent job! This group of students has achieved two Standard of Excellence awards – in fourth grade on the math assessment and the fifth grade reading assessment,” said Dewey.
