Even an ice storm can’t delay the crowning of the King and Queen of Winter Sports, which is still on schedule for Friday, Jan. 28. With all the wintry weather, students and staff are now rushing to prepare for the week’s activities and crowning ceremony.

The 2005 King and Queen of Winter Sports candidates are Dylan Bahm, Curtis Hamilton, Chris Wichman, Sally Bollig, Andrea Childs, and Lacy White.

One of the duties of being nominated is appearing in a video with all of the other candidates. The video, produced by the video production class, will be shown in the Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Jan. 27. (Time to be announced at a later date.)

After viewing the video, students will then vote on the King and Queen winners. The royalty will be crowned during a ceremony at halftime during the boys’ varsity game against Wamego on Friday, Jan. 28. The Silver Lake NEA is also sponsoring a chili/soup supper that same night in the commons area from 4:45 - 7 p.m.

Students will be preparing for King and Queen of Winter Sports all week by dressing up for spirit week activities including: Pajama Day on Monday, Favorite Decade Day on Tuesday, Neon Day on Wednesday, Superhero Day on Thursday, and Maroon and Gold Day on Friday.

The daily prize of a big cookie from the kitchen’s ala cart will be given away to the top two people who dress the most spirited. A grand prize gift card will be given away at the dance to one person who is the most spirited all week long. The grand prizewinner must be present to receive his or her prize.

On Friday afternoon, StuCo will host a pep rally to get the candidates even more involved in the weeks’ activities. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
