The tail end of the Scholars Bowl season signifies some of the most important tournaments of the year, including league and regionals.

The Silver Lake varsity team consisting of seniors Aaron Blush, Sally Bollig, Jess Norton, and juniors Josh Ruby and Colin Wilstead recently captured first in the Mid-East League Scholars Bowl tournament, which they hosted.

The Mid-East League teams competing included Riley County, Rock Creek, Rossville, and Wabaunsee. The schools competed in a round-robin tournament, with Silver Lake leading the pack the whole time. In the end, Rock Creek captured second and Rossville placed third.

This was the very first tournament of the year with all five of the varsity students competing for Silver Lake. After working together and taking first, Coach Judy Hamilton, science teacher, felt the tournament went well.

“This is one of few meets we’ve competed against schools our size. With that in mind, I think they've been competitive. But this was our best showing so far this season,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton is excited that they now have their full varsity squad and looks forward to the rest of the year.

“We will have the full varsity team for the Rossville meet and regionals, so hopefully our performance will continue to improve,” commented Hamilton.

The next stop for the team will be regionals on Feb. 3 at Northern Heights.
