Spring plays showcased Sunday

February 15, 2005

The two spring plays, “Last of Sherlock Holmes” and “Sherlock Holmes, Great Grandson Goes Hollywood” will be performed Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. in Silver Lake High School’s Performing Arts Center. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $3.50 for students and senior citizens and $4.50 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

According to Mary Larson, play director, “Last of Sherlock Holmes” by Tim Kelley is a little farce-comedy that pits Holmes (played by senior Jason Kellner) and Watson (played by senior Dylan Bahm) against their greatest foe, the evil and sinister Professor Moriarty.

The play begins with the villain’s dramatic capture. Soon after, Mrs. Hudson (played by senior Andrea Childs) announces the arrival of a heavily veiled woman (played by senior Rachelle DeShazo) who has come on matters of the gravest delicacy.

Larson said that it views a typical day in the life of the master detective who has just discovered the science of fingerprinting.

It is Watson who brings the startling news that Moriarty has escaped once more to pursue his life of crime and evil. Now it’s up to Holmes to prove, via fingerprints, the criminal’s true identity.

In “Sherlock Homes, Great Grandson Goes Hollywood” by Bill Majeski, the (very) great grandson of the master sleuth (played by senior Chris Farris) tries to make it as a private eye.

Larson said his mind is filled with beautiful girls in dire straights who will be saved by his massive intellect. Unfortunately, great grandson Sherwood is not quite up to his illustrious ancestor Sherlock, a fact pointed out to him by the descendant of Doctor Watson (played by senior Kasey Clark).

She said thrust into a marvelous and complex murder mystery, young Sherwood tries desperately to rise to the occasion, but his brilliant solution is apparently no more than a humorous disaster. However, this great grandson still retains a bit of the brilliance attached to his name.

The dress rehearsal will be held Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
