The Silver Lake High School choir recently competed at league, earning them much recognition. Four special choir groups attended. The SL Women’s Ensemble received a two rating, the SL Concert Choir and SL Men’s Ensemble earned one ratings, while the SL Select Choir obtained an impressive one-plus rating.

Twelve soloists competed. Scott Girard, Kate Taylor, Austin Roberson, Josh Ruby, Dylan Bahm, Rachel McCall, and Jennifer Fredrickson earned one ratings. Amanda Pfannenstiel, Bailey White, Jayme Lindstrom, and Michelle Taylor received two-plus ratings and Nikole Wilkinson achieved a two rating.

Senior Tanya Pfannenstiel was pleased that the select choir was able to outperform their competition.

“I think we deserved the one-plus rating because we didn’t have that much time to work on our music as a group, and it just proved that we had worked that hard,” Pfannenstiel commented.

Along with the choir competing at league, the SLHS band also attended a league competition. The clarinet quartet received a one rating. The other groups included the saxophone septet, trumpet quartet, and the concert band, all receiving two ratings.

Band soloists also showcased their talents. Roberson competed in the solo timpani category and received a two rating. Fredrickson competed in solo trumpet and also earned a two rating, while freshman Joey Boaldin also earned a two rating in solo snare drum.

The one-ranking clarinet quartet consisted of Bailey Altman, Kaitlin Metzler, Jessica Hawkins and Rachael Bennett. Hawkins appreciated being a part of this particular group for many reasons.

“I think that the clarinet quartet deserved the one because we were the only group who stayed after school to work on their piece. I was pleased to be a part of this hard-working group because everyone pulled their own weight,” Hawkins commented.
