Forensics students qualify for post-season competitions

On March 18-19, the Silver Lake forensics squad headed to Mission Valley High School to participate in the Catholic Forensics League (CFL) Qualifier. They placed first as a team with a score of 328 points. The Eagles have won this tournament 17 years in a row.
The following participants took first place and will advance to the National Qualifier in Milwaukee, Wis. in May: Christina Carter, sophomore, in extemporaneous speaking, Marissa Shelley, senior, in oratory, Mary Beth Rader, senior, in dramatic performance and Chris Farris, senior, and Torrie Fassnacht, senior, in duo interpretation.
The following forensicators did not place first but will compete at the National Qualifier. Shelley McClelland, senior, took third place in extemporaneous speaking; Katie Briggs, junior, took second place in oratory; Ashley Hanson, sophomore, took fourth place in oral declamation; Rader and Kasey Clark, senior, took fourth place in duo interpretation; Clark took third place in dramatic performance; Aaron Blush, senior, in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Courtney Brokaw, sophomore, took fourth place in Student Congress.
The following students have already qualified for the state tournament on May 7. In the extemporaneous category, Blush, McClelland, Nick Miller, sophomore, Donnie Hanson, sophomore, Alex Oyler, junior, Brokaw, and Carter will compete.
In the oratory category, Shelley, Briggs, McClelland, Abby Cunningham, senior, A. Hanson, Scott Girard, senior, and Carter qualified.
In the informative category, Shelley, Cunningham, Oyler, Shannon Lindstrom, sophmore, and Briggs qualified.
In the humorous solo acting category, Jill Lira, sophomore, Jessica Norton, senior, Rader, and Chris Farris, senior, qualified.
In the serious solo acting category, Rader, Clark, Kaitlin Metzler, sophomore, Rachael Bennett, sophomore, Bailey White, sophomore, and A. Hanson qualified.
In the duet acting category, Fassnacht and Farris, Metzler and Bailey Altman, sophomore, Rader and Clark, and Carrie Myran, sophomore, and Jared Wilcox, freshman, Emy Ladner, sophomore, and Marshall Wetta, freshman, qualified.
In the prose interpretation category, Norton, Chelsy Abrams, senior, and Clark qualified.
In the poetry interpretation category, Lindstrom, and Clark qualified.
