Senioritis prevalent in hallways

Ah, the sights of spring: blooming flowers, freshly cut grass and the reduced number of seniors seen in the hallways.
As April begins, so does the countdown of how many days seniors have left until graduation (27, just so you know). Actually, I think some of my classmates started counting three years ago. Now as a result, many seniors are coming down with senioritis.
While it’s not actually defined in the dictionary, senioritis is usually characterized by laziness, procrastination and just a total lack of caring. Seniors just want to get it done in the fastest way possible because the quicker we get it done, the sooner we get to move on.
I, like many of the 12th-graders, decided to opt out of taking the full eight classes this semester. Since I have all of the credits needed to graduate, I figured ‘Why stay in school longer than I have to?' It seemed like the perfect plan. I would get to sleep in one day and leave early on the next. Who wouldn’t want to benefit from this option? As it turns out, seven seniors. Yep, only seven out of the 59 students in the senior class are taking a full schedule.
Aaron Blush, one of these students, said that having more classes leads to more advantages.
“It’s important to do the most you can because if you get used to slacking, it will become habit and you will not be able to achieve your full potential,” Blush said.
However, on the other hand, many of the seniors feel that this is one of the perks about being a senior. Kaela Cairns, who is taking five classes, enjoys having a shortened schedule.
“I’ve taken basically every class I needed so it’s nice to have the luxury of leaving early or sleeping in,” she said
So what’s our big hurry? Why are we rushing to get out of the place we’ve become so accustomed to over the past four years? We’ve all been through so much in high school, including our senior year. Memories made, friendships lost; no one will forget their final year of high school. After we graduate, there will be no more Homecoming decorating, no more After-Prom and, yes, we may even have to do our own laundry.
We shouldn’t be looking at the lingering days as if we can’t wait to move forward, but instead focus on how many days we’ve spent at SLHS and then begin to cherish the few weeks we have left.
