As this chapter of the seniors’ lives comed to a close, several students are reaching for new heights. Their higher education does not only include academics, but also athletics and other collegiate activities.

Adam Simone will attend Kansas City Kansas Community College to play baseball. Simone said he chose KCKCC because he wants to play baseball there, and it’s close to home.

Simone is leaning toward a major.

“I haven’t decided yet but probably journalism,” Simone said.

Simone said he was most excited about going on to play baseball at a higher level.

“Getting better and being able to keep playing the sport I love,” he said.

Ronnie Anderson will play volleyball at Allen County Community College next year.

“It is a small college and not too far away from home,” she said.

Anderson plans on pursuing coaching and elementary education.

“I look forward to meeting new people, traveling and learning how to play the sport better,” she said.

Brady LaMar will attend the University of Nebraska on a wrestling scholarship. LaMar chose this school mostly for its wrestling program.

“Nebraska is a really good school with an established wrestling program. I chose the school because it will be a really good fit for me, and it is rather close to home,” said LaMar.

LaMar is undecided about what he will study.

“I am undecided, but will probably enter to study architecture or accounting,” LaMar said.

LaMar is most excited about becoming a better athlete.

“It will take much hard work and dedication, but I really look forward to being involved in such a powerful program and becoming a better athlete,” LaMar said.

Jess Yates will play softball at McPherson College. Yates chose this school because of its size.

“The campus is small, and I really like the team,” Yates said.

Yates is excited about getting to play next year, but mostly about getting to travel. She plans on studying biology.

Curtis Hamilton will play softball for Seward County Community College.

“I chose SCCC because they have a good baseball program,” he said.

Hamilton plans on studying education and coaching. He is looking forward to become a better athlete and playing baseball at a higher level.

Andrea Childs plans on playing softball at South Western Missouri.

“I chose this school because when I went on my visit, I fell in love with it. Everybody was so nice, and I felt so comfortable with every thing,” she said.

Childs is not sure about what she will study.

“Probably education, but for now, I am undecided,” Childs said.

She said she is looking forward to playing softball.

“I love softball, and I’m going to be playing with people who’re also very passionate about the game,” she said.

Other students who received scholarships are as follows: Nathan Force, Fort Scott Community College, football scholarship; Jeremy Mellies, wrestling scholarship, Labette County Community College; Justin Wall, wrestling scholarship, Neosho Junior College; Katie Miller, scholarship, Pinnacle Career Institute in Lawrence; Lindsey Davis, dance team scholarship, Barton County Community College; and Jess Norton, academic scholarship, Washburn University.

Dylan Bahm and Scott Girard both received engineering scholarships to Kansas State University. Bahm received the K-State Foundation Scholarship, while Girard received the Fairchild Scholarship.
