On May 10 at 7:10 a.m., Silver Lake High School held its breakfast for all "Student of the Month" recipients. This year there were 77 recipients.
In order for a student to be nominated for "Student of the Month," a teacher must nominate them when they see them doing something good.
Journalism teacher Jamie Manhart explained, “I always take advantage of the opportunity to nominate a Student of the Month because I feel that many time, as teachers and administrators, we are looking for students doing something wrong instead of doing something right. This program allows teachers to award students who are going the extra mile in their classrooms,” she said.
Even though Student of the Month is a positive program, there is always room for improvement explained Tina Davis, special education teacher and "Student of the Month" committee member.
Davis stated, “ I feel this is a program that is important to have within our school, but I feel it needs to be modified and am open for any suggestions,” she said.
Students who received "Student of the Month" this year are as follows: are Barbara Abrams, Chelsy Abrams, Bailey Altman, Ronnie Anderson, Bradley Bahret, Tanner Ballengee, Aaron Blush, Sally Bollig, Hunter Bowers, Megan Bowers, Courtney Brokaw, Steph Bryant, Matt Burke, Alyssa Cairns, Kaela Cairns, Johnathan Carnahan, Natalie Carroll, Christina Carter, Jordan Childers, Katie Childs, Michael Christopher, Kasey Clark, Cody Conaway, Jason Corwin, Cory Cruse, Abby Cunningham, Chelsea Davis, Rachelle DeShazo, Scott Girard, Dylan Gragert, Caitlin Grant, Cole Grant, Curtis Hamilton, James Hansford, Ashley Hanson, Jessica Hawkins, Nick Hill, Cortney Immenschuh, Belle Jordaro, Jason Kellner, Jessica Knight, Emy Ladner, Brady LaMar, Ashley Lewicki, Joey Lightell, Jordan Lockwood, Jayme Lindstrom, Shannon Lindstrom, Mary Marsh, Khandis Martindale, Erika Massek, Erin Massek, Cody Meier, Justin Meier, Liz Moore, Jessica Norton, Eric Ochs, Tabitha Ouderkirk, Amanda Pfannenstiel, Mary Beth Rader, Austin Roberson, Josh Ruby, Paulina Rudolph, Ben Scarbrough, Jessica Scarbrough, Marissa Shelley, Rachel Stover, Kate Taylor, Mark Tetuan, Jaimie Tosh, Brittney True, Erik Ure, Jess Yates, Jessica Wehner, Lacy White, Clayton Wichman, and Amie Worthington.
Many students feel very rewarded when they know they are nominated by a teacher who is going through one of their stressful times of the year.
Junior Val Roberson, yearbook editor, stated, “I was nominated by Mrs. Manhart, and it was comforting to know that she recognized my commitment to the journalism program, especially during deadline time when she is already stressed out.”
