With a new school year beginning, Silver Lake students are anxious about their new classes but even more excited about this year's football season.
Head Football Coach CJ Hamilton said he was very impressed with this year's freshmen during the recent soda scrimmage on Aug. 26.
"With the amount of time that they got in at practices, I thought that they did a pretty good job," stated Hamilton.
The Eagles white team defeated the maroon team during the soda scrimmage with a score of 24-17.
Even though the season has barely started, Hamilton said there are already a few injured players: Trae Stebbins, freshman wide receiver/safety; Michael Hamilton, freshman center/defensive tackle; and Logan Pegram, sophomore offensive/defensive tackle.
Coach Hamilton stated that the Eagles' strengths this year would be their experience on offense and their kicking game. Areas that the Eagles are working on are the weaknesses on defense. He said he is already thinking strategy for when the Eagles face Centralia this Friday night at home.
"(Centralia's) strengths would be their offensive lineman. Their weakness would be that they don't have the experience because they graduated most of their starters," said Hamilton.
The Eagles take on the Centralia Panthers this Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. on the Silver Lake High School football field.
