Homecoming festivities pay homage to Mardi Gras

September 24, 2005

This year's Homecoming activities are alive with color. The theme is based around the well-known Mardi Gras celebration.

The 2005 Homecoming King and Queen candidates are Jennifer Fritz, Jenni Holmer, Rachel McCall, Andrew Christopher, Kyle Steele and Austin Urban.

The Homecoming merriment begins, as usual, with the decorating of the hallways by each class on Sun., Oct. 9. The entire week of Oct. 10 - Oct. 14 will be filled with the crazy costumes for Spirit Week. On Monday, the theme with be "Class Spirit" day. The seniors will wear gold and black, the juniors purple, the sophomores green, and the freshmen silver.

Following Class Spirit Day will be "Fairy Tale" day. The students will dress up as their favorite fairy tale character. Also, Tuesday night will be "Fill the Gym" night at the volleyball game. Each student who dresses in maroon and gold will get in free.

On Wednesday, the student body will dress the part on "Wouldn't Be Caught Dead in That" day. That night, the students will whitewash the parking lot from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Thursday will be "Favorite Movie Character" day. To finish up the week, the tradition of "Maroon and Gold" day will be on Friday.

The annual Homecoming parade will begin Friday at 1:45 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced before the football game. Last year's royalty, Torrie Fassnacht and Jess Yates, will be in attendance to crown their successors. Bethany Hogle and Nathan Ruby will be the child crown bearers. Then, the Homecoming football game vs. Pomona will commence.

The last activity of the night will be the dance. This year's dance will immediately follow the game and will end at midnight. The admission price is $3.

10/05/2005 I would like to see an end to what has become a homecoming tradition. That is the dumping of shredded paper in the yards of the players and coaches. This is not decorating! Put up signs, hang some streamers, maybe throw a little toilet paper. Please stop with the shredded paper. I have better things to do on Saturday than spend 5 or 6 hours cleaning up trash.
