Cow Bingo has become a tradition at Silver Lake, and this year is no exception.
Cow Bingo will take place on Thursday, Oct. 27 immediately following the football game featuring Silver Lake vs. Oskaloosa. One lucky member of the community will win $200.
Members of the high school journalism staff will begin selling squares for Cow Bingo at the junior varsity football game against the Rossville Dawgs on Oct. 10. Students will also sell Cow Bingo tickets at the high school volleyball game on Oct. 11 and the Homecoming football game on Oct. 14. Squares cost $10 each. There is no maximum amount of squares an individual can purchase.
Members of the community may also stop by the high school office and ask for Jamie Manhart, journalism adviser, to purchase squares.
The rules of Cow Bingo are:
- The cow will enter on the east side of the football field and will remain for five minutes.
- Whoever owns the square that the cow relieves itself on will be declared the winner.
- If the cow does not relieve itself, then whoever owns the square that the cow is standing on at the end of the five minutes will be the winner.
- If the cow relieves itself on a square that has not been purchased, the owner of the square directly east of that square will be declared the winner.
Checks should be made payable to Silver Lake High School. Cash, of course, is always accepted. The winner does not have to be present to claim his or her prize money. A representative from the journalism department will contact the winner.
The journalism staff will use the money raised during Cow Bingo to fund their 2005-2006 all-color yearbook.
