The Silver Lake Honor Club chapter of the National Honor Society will induct 14 new members on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
According to Alan Cunningham, NHS sponsor, the attributes for membership are character, scholarship, leadership, and service. Juniors must achieve a 3.40 cumulative grade point average, while seniors must maintain a 3.30. SLHS faculty base their selections weighing each student's merit in the remaining areas of character, leadership, and service.
The senior inductees are Liane Smith, Katlyn Mathis, Andrew Hawkins, and Tyler Boxberger. The junior inductees are Calla Mounkes, Nicolas Miller, Shannon Lindstrom, Jayme Lindstrom, Brian Hill, Caitlin Grant, Christina Carter, Courtney Brokaw, Austin Blush, and Bailey Altman.
The current National Honor Society members are president Kyle Steele, Stephanie Bryant, Ashley Lewicki, Jenni Holmer, Ty Herrmann, Jacob Deiter, Alex Oyler, vice president Valerie Roberson, Lauren Cunningham, Kate Taylor, Jennifer Fritz, Jennifer Fredrickson, Luke Perry, and treasurer Joshua Ruby.
Boxberger understands the importance of being a member of NHS.
"It's an honor and also a privilege to be inducted into National Honor Society because there are only a few people selected," he explained.
Grant agreed with Boxberger.
"It is important to me to be an NHS member because it shows me that all my work has paid off. I think leadership is the most important attribute because it shows how you are able to act with others and prove that you can help guide others," she said.
