Student Council is a club that is dedicated to making a difference. The student body has a voice in what is being done. Without StuCo the student's voices may go unheard. StuCo sponsors dances and fundraisers. StuCo representatives are elected each year. Mary LaMar, StuCo sponsor and librarian at Silver Lake High School, explained the composition of StuCo.
"Student council is made up of representatives from each of the four classes, as well as an elected president and vice president," stated Mrs. Lamar.
StuCo has been very active in trying to promote student spirit at games. This year StuCo has been trying to be more active by creating more activities for the students to participate in.
StuCo has been busy organizing different activities throughout the year to encourage student participation in the school's activities. StuCo has recently added morning announcements to get students excited about the day.
This year has been quite the year for StuCo as they try to be more active in the student body and create activities for the students to partake in. StuCo is responsible for organizing Homecoming and Winter sports events.
"We always plan the King and Queen activities. This year our goal is to not only do just the King and Queen of courts, we are trying to stay active throughout the whole year," said Mrs. Lamar.
The president of StuCo, senior Colin Wilstead, has been trying to get StuCo involved with different things. Though he would not divulge what was ahead for StuCo, he promised they were planning something.
"One thing I would like to see StuCo do is become more active in the student's daily lives because students right now don't know if student council is doing anything for them. The morning announcements are a step forward in that direction," stated Wilstead.
