Seniors prepare for future

Silver Lake students of the Class of 2006 are finishing their last few days left in high school. The graduating seniors will receive their diplomas on Sunday, May 21. These seniors still have a long road ahead, and they recently shared their past memories and future plans.
Tyler Boxberger
College attending: Emporia State University
Scholarship: Academic
Who or what you will miss the most: sports

Favorite teacher: "AC is my favorite teacher because he is sarcastic and funny."
What you will remember most about Jacob Deiter: "That kid is crazy."
Stephanie Bryant
College attending: Cloud County Community College
Scholarship: Books and tuition for basketball
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss being with my friends every day and playing sports with them."

Alyssa Cairns
Who or what you will miss the most: "Friends."
Favorite teacher: "Mrs. Davis because I get to talk to her."
Eric Cray
Future plans: "I'm attending Vo-Tech for the next two years starting this fall."

Lauren Cunningham
College attending: University of Kansas

Who or what you will miss the most: "I'm definitely going to miss seeing all of my friends that I've known for 10 or more years every day, and I will miss the small town atmosphere of Silver Lake."

Favorite class and teacher: Class: Any art class. Teacher: ties between Naylor, Manhart and Herndon. "I loved my art classes because I was able to showcase creativity without any boundaries. I loved those teachers because they made class fun, and they taught me to be a better person."
What you will remember most about Jenni Holmer: "I will always remember how optimistic Jenni was. She always seemed to be in a good mood and was a person that I could always count on to be there for me."
Chelsea Davis
Future plans: She doesn't know her future plans but would like to work with children

What you will remember most about Jessica Workman: "Her crazy attitude!"
Jacob Deiter
College attending: Kansas State University
Who or what you will miss the most: "The soap opera relationships in the hallways, and where the 'love of their life' breaks up with them, they put on the mopey face until their ex feels sorry for them, and they promise to change so they can get back together."

What you will remember most about Matt Runyan: "The time that me and Ryan Biggs almost broke Matt's neck on a cross country trip."
Jennifer Fredrickson
College attending: She plans to major in nursing or veterinary medicine
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss Mr. Bollig and AC telling stupid jokes."

Favorite class and teacher: "Drivers ed and Mr. Grimmett were my favorite because I was one of the oldest in the class, so I was treated with respect, and I got to drive without being yelled at."
What you will remember most about Ben Scarbrough: "I will remember what a good friend he was to me, and how much fun we had when we actually found things to do."
Jennifer Fritz
College attending: Washburn University
Scholarship: $750 academic scholarship for Washburn
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss the friends I have made over the years and the tradition that comes with this small school. I will also miss volleyball and softball."
Favorite quote: "You never know what you may accomplish until you try...follow your dreams and heart."
Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class was being Mrs. Musselman's teacher's aide for her second-grade classroom. She has served as a mentor for me and encouraged me to go into the field. She's an amazing teacher and person!"
What you will remember most about Jessica Menhusen: "How every time someone tries to take a picture of her, she makes this hilarious face where she drops her jaw open and doesn't show any emotion!"
Amanda Gragert
College attending: Undecided. She is attending a nursing school to become a registered nurse.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I definitely miss seeing and talking to my friends on a daily basis."
Favorite quote: "Any from AC."
Favorite class and teacher: "Math classes. AC always made class fun by cracking jokes about me. I know he truly loves me, and I know he misses me. Ha. Ha."
What you will remember most about Nick Clark: "Receiving phone calls at 2:00 a.m. and getting a voicemail of him singing 'I've got a dozen roses...'"
James Hansford
Future plans: To be a wrestler
Who or what you will miss the most: "Friends."
Favorite teachers: "CJ and Mr. Blush - the fun classes."
What you will remember most about Alyssa Cairns: "She is funny and smart."

Who or what you will miss the most: "I'm gonna miss finding out about all the Silver Lake gossip."

Favorite class and teacher: My favorite class was college psychology because I learned some very interesting things, and I sat by Jenni Holmer. My favorite teacher is Mr. Cunningham because we talked about what happened the night before on David Letterman."
What will you remember most about Jordan Lowe: "I will remember going hunting and fishing with him."
Jessica Knight
Future plans: "My future plans are to pass basic and AIT for the Army National Guard."
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss my friends that are in the lower grades."
Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class and teacher would be Mrs. Elliott's English classes because she knew that we could do it and pushed us to do our best."
What you will remember most about Carolin Polte: "I will remember how well she did in English class."
Ashley Lewicki
College attending: Kansas State University
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss seeing all of my friends that I have become close to over my last four years in high school."

Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class would have to be a math class and AC is my favorite teacher because he always keeps you entertained somehow."
What you will remember most about Danielle Richards: "The time we were driving around together and we made all of our friends go into the ditch because they were trying to hide from us. I will also remember her smile."
Jordan Lowe
College attending: Emporia State University
Scholarship: $500 scholarship
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss football the most, and I will also miss Heather."

Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class was strength and conditioning with CJ because you actually worked and didn't just sit around."
What you will remember most about Luke Perry: "I will always remember the bond that Luke and I had on the football field, and not just with Luke. All of the senior guys, we were like brothers on the field. Each one of us could be trusted."
Khandis Martindale
Future plans: Joining the Navy. She will leave at the end of the summer and will not return for a few years.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss the girls in my general choir class and my best friend of 16 years Hunter Bowers! He is my other half, my brother, my counselor, my shoulder to lean on...without Hunter having my back all these years, I don't know where I'd be."
Favorite quote: "You need those who doubt you so you have someone to prove wrong."
Favorite class and teacher: "Spanish 2 with Ms. Bonine. I love making jokes and laughing until I cry with Hunter. There was never a dull moment, if I had anything to do with it."
What you will remember most about Jessica Knight: "I will miss her company and her spunk and especially her outlook on life. We have a lot in common, and I know I could tell her anything and she would understand. I trust her with my life because she has always been there and someone like her is hard to find."
Justin Maryott
College attending: Attending school to become a certified medical aide. School choice is undecided.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss all of my friends that moved away the most."
Favorite quote: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class was business law with Zig because I could relate to what he said, and the subject was very interesting."
What you will remember most about Austin Workman: "I have way too many memories with Austin to just pick one, but I will always remember how good of a friend he was to me ever since we were little kids."
Katlyn Mathis
College attending: Washburn University. She plans to be a fourth-grade teacher.
Scholarship: Presidential Scholarship
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss Kansas Silver Lake students teasing me about my accent, especially Kyle Steele. I also liked making fun of his odd dialect."
Favorite quote: "You're killin' me!" by Loren Ziegler
Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class is Mrs. Naylor's college comp class because it is challenging but in a very relaxed atmosphere. Mrs. Naylor is my favorite teacher because she has really slapped me in the face and showed me reality."
What you will remember most about Elizabeth Moore: "The fact that I just realized that her name was Elizabeth and not Liz. You really learn something new every day."
Rachel McCall
College attending: Highland Community College. She plans to stay at Highland for a year and then enroll at the University of Kansas to pursue a master's degree in nursing and become a nurse practitioner.
Scholarship: books and tuition for track and field
Who or what you will miss the most: "I'm definitely going to miss seeing everyone I care for every day like my mom, Evan and my friends. Life is going to be tough without their comfort."
Favorite quote: "When you know what you want, and you want it badly enough, you'll find a way to get it."
Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite teacher is Mrs. Larson because she's an awesome person. She taught me to analyze things from several different perspectives. I could talk to her about anything, and I know she wouldn't judge me."
What you will miss most about Stephanie Bryant: "I will miss Steph's crazy personality and hanging out with her every day."
Kathryn McDonald
College attending: She has yet to make a decision, although she may attend Washburn University
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss seeing and spending time with my friends."
Favorite quote: "Learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow."
Favorite class and teacher: "Journalism 2 because I can work somewhat on my own time."
What you will remember most about Haley McGinnis: "What I will remember most about Haley would be her strong will and humor."
Jessica Menhusen
College attending: Washburn University. She will major in design technology.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss seeing my friends."
Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class was government with Mr. Lampe. He is awesome."
What you will remember most about Lauren Cunningham: "The time she spent the night and she went to put on her green pajamas, and they didn't fit."
Elizabeth Moore
College attending: Washburn University. She plans to pursue a career in psychology.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss the situation of knowing everyone you go school with."

Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite teacher is Mrs. McGough and my favorite class is strength and conditioning. CJ puts up with a lot!"
What you will remember most about Ashley Runkle: "Her obsession with boys in junior high, her love of pugs, and the night of Mr. Ashley."
Alex Oyler
College attending: University of Kansas, majoring in computer science
Scholarship: Four year renewable $1,000 Dean's Scholarship from the School of Engineering and also a $2,500 non-renewable Freshman Honors Scholarship
Who or what you will miss the most: Debate
Favorite quote: "I once defined politics by divan, the meanings of its two root words - 'poli' meaning 'many,' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking parasites.'"
Favorite class and teacher: "Mrs. Naylor's English 4 - it's just so fun!"
What you will remember most about Colin Wilstead: "Being THE MAN for all fours years of his high school career."
Carolin Polte
Future plans: She plans to attend college, but when she returns to Germany, she still has two more years of high school.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I am still enjoying high school, but when the time comes, I will see all my friends who will live their own lives."
Favorite quote: "Your question of the day is, 'Would you rather walk 20 miles with a rock in your shoe or get hit in the head with a sock filled with uncooked potatoes?'"
Favorite teacher: "My favorite teacher is Miss Herndon. She always shows positive thinking, and she always has a smile on her face. She is crazy in a good way, creative."
What you will remember most about Jennifer Fritz: "When I was new at Silver Lake, she was one of the first people who helped me figure out how high school worked. She is very humorous and always has a nice smile for people around her. I think she has a great personality, and she has qualities for leadership that will bring her some luck with life."
Ryan Reser
Future plans: His plans after graduation are to wait at least a year after high school then go to college.
What or who you will miss most: "The class I will miss the most is wood shop because I could build stuff that I can keep and use for a lifetime."
Favorite quote: From "Family Guy." "Victory will be mine!" and Peter says that he'll make sure every one has a chicken in every pot and a cap..."
Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class would be any Lampe class because Lampe made learning fun."
What you will remember the most about Josh Ruby: "Josh likes to play the tenor saxophone, rain or shine."
Valerie Roberson
College attending: Attending Washburn University. She plans to major in broadcast journalism and teach at the Dance Factory in Topeka.
Scholarship: Garvey, Academic, Presidential, Valedictoria, and Leadership Scholarships from Washburn University, comprised amount of $5,400.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I will miss seeing my friends every day. We've grown extremely close over the past school years."

Josh Ruby
College attending: Attending Wichita State University. He plans to go into the cooperative education program at WSU and hopefully get a job at NASA.
Scholarship: $10,000 engineering scholarship from WSU and $3,000 incoming freshman scholarship from WSU.
Who or what you will miss the most: "I think that I will miss my friends the most. They have always been there for me, and it is going to be hard to leave them behind and go to college."

Favorite class and teacher: "My favorite class and teacher would have to be math with Mr. Cunningham. I love AC's sense of humor and how he incoorporates it in his classes. Also, math is my favorite subject so it isn't so hard to see why I consider his class is my favorite."
What you will remember most about Alex Oyler: "I think the thing that I will remember most about Alex is how he always has some retort. My favorite ones are 'it happens' and 'oh snap.'"
Ashley Runkle
College attending: She is undecided on where she is attending college but she wants to pursue a career in nursing.
Who or what you will miss the most: "The thing I will miss the most will be my friends."
