Cow bingo scheduled

Journalism department benefits from fundraising

By Brooke Stebbins

October 16, 2006

Cow Bingo will take place on Thursday, Oct. 26 immediately following the football game featuring Silver Lake vs. Jefferson County North. According to Jamie Manhart, journalism instructor, one lucky member of the community will win $200.

The Cow Bingo squares can be purchased for $10 each at the high school. Tickets will be sold from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the home volleyball matches on Tuesday, Oct. 17; from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the high school vocal concert on Wednesday, Oct. 18; and from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the junior high band and vocal concert on Thursday, Oct. 19. Anyone who is interested in buying Cow Bingo squares may also call Jamie Manhart at (785) 582-4639.

There are no maximum amount of squares one person may purchase. The rules of Cow Bingo are as follows:

The cow will enter on the east side of the football field and will remain for five minutes. Whoever owns the square that the cow relieves itself on will be declared the winner. If the cow does not relieve itself, then whoever owns the square that the cow is standing on at the end of the five minutes will be the winner. If the cow relieves itself on a square that has not been purchased, the owner of the square directly east of that square will be declared the winner.

Checks should be made payable to Silver Lake High School. Cash, of course, is always accepted. The winner does not need to be present to claim his or her prize. A representative from the journalism department will contact the winner.

The journalism staff will use the money raised during Cow Bingo to fund their 2006-2007 all-color yearbook.
