Team headed to sub-state
November 03, 2006
It appeared that the Eagles breezed through most of their games during the regular and post season; however, they were challenged Friday night by the Burlington Wildcats.
Silver Lake entered the game with an 11-0 record, while the Wildcats stood at 9-2. With a 0-7 deficit going into the second half, the Eagles came back and defeated Burlington 20-14. Sophomore Tyler Roberts connected with junior Josh Baden twice and senior Marty Pfannenstiel once.
Sabetha (9-2) and Frontenac (7-4) also faced off Friday night. Sabetha came out the victor, setting up a sub-state match-up between the Silver Lake Eagles and Sabetha Blue Jays on Friday, Nov. 17.
The game will be held in Sabetha with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. Students are encouraged to ride the pep bus that will leave at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. A sign-up sheet is currently available in the office.
According to Jim Lindstrom, athletic director, the winner of the Silver Lake-Sabetha game will play the winner of the Garden Plain-Hillsboro game on Saturday, Nov. 25. The 3A state football game will be in Salina beginning at 1 p.m.
