Regional contest, trip in early April

By Trent Strunk

March 28, 2007

On March 14, the band and choir traveled to St. Marys for League. The results proved to be promising for the upcoming regional competition.

Peter Ruby was at the front of the pack when it came to band. His "1+" was the highest score he could receive on his trombone solo.

Receiving a rating of "1" were Bailey Altman, Kaitlin Metzler, Jessica Hawkins, and Bailey White with their clarinet quartet; Weston Nelson, Jaimie Tosh, Austin Blush, and Jessica Scarbrough for their saxophone quartet; Tosh and her alto sax solo; Metzler and her clarinet solo; and Altman with her clarinet solo.

Jay McDaniel, JaVon Martin, Brooks Farris, Drake Pino, and Cody Richardson received a "1-" on their percussion quintet.

The other solos and ensembles received a rating of "2" and included Trent Strunk with his trumpet solo, Hanna Geer and her trumpet solo, Sarah Ables with her oboe solo, and Altman, Metzler, and Hawkins with their clarinet trio.

The entire band received a "1" for their two pieces.

The choir was also able to find success at league.

Rachel Cross, Altman, Derek Holmer, Amanda Pfannenstiel, Kayleen Kelley, the Men's Ensemble, and the Select Choir all received "1" ratings in St. Marys.

Ruby, White, Rachael Bennett, the Women's Ensemble, and the Concert Choir got the distinction of "1-."

Cameron Lambert, Carrington Parker, Shelby Boucher, Brian Hill, and Michelle Taylor were able to pull in "2s" for their solos at league.

Tonight, the band and choir solos and ensembles will perform in the high school Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. for some extra practice before Saturday's regional competition. All band solos and ensembles that received "1"s will be playing along with all of the choir solos and ensembles. The mini-concert also allows the community to see the individual talent that the members possess.

Not long after the performance, the band and choir members travel to Branson. They will perform at Silver Dollar City and will have the chance to visit the "Ducks," the Haygoods show, and the Talking Rocks Cavern. A total of 107 members will embark on the journey to the Ozarks on April 4 and will return to Silver Lake on April 7.
