The month of May means the end of school, but students remain busy as usual.
On May 9 at 7:30 p.m., the jazz and high school concert bands will perform in the Performing Arts Center.
The junior and senior prom will be held at the Great Overland Station in Topeka on May 12 at 8 p.m. After-prom will be from midnight to 5 a.m. at the high school. Any questions about after-prom should be directed to Kim Roberson at the high school.
The seniors' last day is May 16, and graduation will be on May 20 at 3 p.m. in the new gym at the high school. The valedictorian is Calla Mounkes and the salutatorian is Brian Hill.
Finally, what all the students have been waiting for is the last day of school, which will be May 22 for the third through eighth graders along with the sophomores and juniors. May 23 is the last day of school for the preschool, first, second, and ninth graders.
The results of the Kansas State Assessments determined if the students got out of school on May 22, and all grades that took the test met the requirements for an early release.
The seventh grade had 97 percent meet standards in math and 100 percent in reading. The eighth grade had 98 1/2 percent meet standards in math and 95 1/2 percent in reading. The 10th grade had 75 percent meet standards in math. The 11th grade had 96 percent of the class meet requirements for reading.
