Athletes advance to state competitons
Teams look for success

The spring sports teams have advanced to post-season play and are ready to gain another state trophy for the year.
State track will be this Friday and Saturday, May 25-26, in Wichita. The individuals who qualified for state are Sara Wetzel in long jump and 100M hurdles; Jenna Yoder in shot put; Adam Wetzel in triple jump; Jerod Barker in the 3200; JaVon Martin in 110M hurdles; Marty Pfannenstiel in 110M hurdles and 300M hurdles; and Logan Pegram in discus.
S. Wetzel competes at 9:20 a.m. on Friday in the 100M hurdles and 9:45 a.m.on Friday in the long jump. Finals are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday. Her brother, Adam, is competing at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in the triple jump.
Yoder will compete in shot put at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, while Pegram will compete in discus on Friday at 9:45 a.m. and shot put on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. Barker runs on Friday at 8:45 a.m. Pfannenstiel and Martin will compete on Friday at 9:40 a.m. in the 100M hurdles. Pfannenstiel will also compete in the 300M hurdles on Friday at 11:25 a.m. Finals for the 100M hurdles will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., while finals for the 300M hurdles are scheduled for Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
The softball girls (15-5) have also advanced to state play as the number six seed. They will play the third seed Hoisington (19-2) on Friday, May 25 at 7 p.m. on Field B at the Twin Oaks Complex in Manhattan. If the girls advance, they will play on Saturday, May 26 at 10 a.m. They would face the winners of the Haven and Wellsville match up.
The baseball team has made it to state again and hopes to overcome the unfortunate weather to come out on top. The team was able to receive the four seed with a record of 13-4 and will face the five seed Central Heights (16-6) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25 held at Norvell Field at Eisenhower Middle School in Manhattan. If Silver Lake advances, they will play the winner of the Trinity Academy and Pleasant Ridge game at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26.
