On Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Silver Lake FFA Chapter took 14 members to the annual Northeast District Dairy Cattle Contest in Axtell, Kan.

Senior Collin Hase and juniors Adam Wetzel, Tony Hawkins, Trae Stebbins, Alex Hawkins, and Quin Bruce competed in the “A Division.” The group took second out of 13 schools and brought home a trophy.

FFA Sponsor Rick Blush commented on the team's performance.

"I think we did really well," Blush stated. "I was very happy with how everyone competed and placed."

Hase, the top scorer on the team, placed third individually out of 74 competitors, while Wetzel placed seventh.

“B Division” competitors included senior Logan Pegram, juniors Tyler White and Dustin Campbell, and sophomores Lukas Russell, Tyler Roth, and Brian Hanson. They took fourth out of 16 schools.

Campbell placed fourth individually out of 89 competitors, while Russell took 15th.

Juniors Kyle Wichman and DJ Johnson competed in the “Extra Division.”

"I was very pleased with the team's performance," Blush explained. "Last year, we had had about the same amount of success, and I thought we may have had a little bit of luck, but this year I know we performed really well."
