Junior high wrestling squad goes 2-1 in season opener

November 05, 2007

On Nov. 3, the Silver Lake Junior High wrestling squad opened its season with a dual tournament at Rock Creek. SLJH beat Marysville 51-38 and Doniphan West 43-38. They lost to Rock Creek 27-28.

Tournament champions were Jeff Torkelson, Jamie Stadler, Blake Baird, Garrett Kern, Dylan Wichman, and Kyle Klucas. Second-place finishers were Dalton Massek, Pete Pfannenstiel, Cole Trammel, Jacob Schroeder, Sterling Hinson, Kyle Smith and Riley Callahan.

According to Harry LaMar, head coach, most of the wrestlers had very little experience so he was pleased with the results. LaMar noted that in the Marysville dual, Klucas had a nice come-from-behind pin, and Torkelson started the season with a pin.

He said in the Doniphan West dual, Hinson came from behind for a fall, and Callahan had a last-second win. In the Rock Creek dual, LaMar said Eshom, Stadler and Wichman won the last three matches to make the dual score very close.

The grapplers will compete at Northern Hills on Thursday and Silver Lake on Saturday.
