Young grapplers host, win invitational

On Nov. 8, the Silver Lake junior high wrestling team traveled to Northern Hills. SL beat Eisenhower of Manhattan 74-72 and lost to Northern Hills 36-99, making the SL dual record 3-2. Those winning all their matches were Jamie Stadler, Jacob Schroeder, Caleb Howser,and Colby Haverkamp.

On Nov. 10, SL won their own invitational for only the second time in school history. Champions were Jeff Torkelson, Stadler, Pete Pfannenstiel, Howser, Kyle Smith, and Riley Callahan. Second-place honors went to Blake Baird and Schroeder.

Those finishing in third place included Dylan Wichman and Dylan Hernandez, while fourth-place finishes went to Cole Trammel, Shane Wilson, Garrett Kern, Dalton Morgan and Brock Swartz.

According to Harry LaMar, head coach, SL won the last four matches of the day to win the tournament by two points.  Team scores were as follows: Silver Lake 127, Perry 125, Emporia 114, Burlington 106, Rossville 88, Jeff West 83, Santa Fe Trail 72, Rock Creek 47, Oskaloosa 43, St. Marys 31, and Onaga 14.
