Faculty launches state testing with student breakfast

by Jerod Barker

February 21, 2008

Buckle up sports fans! State assessments began on Tuesday February 19!

While everyone was already looking forward to beginning a new round of computerized exams, the Silver Lake High School Leadership team took it one step further with a pancake feed for the students.

The school faculty served breakfast first to Junior High students at 7:45 on Tuesday. They then served the rest of the high school student body during seminar.

Principal Larry Winter thought the pancake breakfast would promote high spirits and raise awareness of the commencement of the tests.

“We wanted a way to help with focus on testing and to announce that the time for state assessments had arrived,” Winter stated. “We’ve also put up many posters around the school to raise awareness.”

Other methods are being used to promote the tests including the “Schoolhouse Rock” posters, humorous portraits of students and faculty, and head of the math department, Brad Womack has even painted state assessment scores from previous years above his and Mr. Cunningham’s doors.
