Web site offers new features for readers
April 02, 2008
In an attempt to appeal to a variety of readers, Jamie Manhart and her high school journalism students have added more features to the web site as well as updated familiar ones.
According to Manhart, a Silver Lake alumni link has been added to the "Administrative" section. She said readers should click on the "Administrative" tab on the home page and then click on the "Silver Lake Alumni" button on the right side of the page. Readers will be taken to the http://silverlakeks.alumniclass.com web site where they can locate and communicate with former Silver Lake graduates.
Another new feature addresses specific curriculums at Silver Lake High School. Students who are interested in taking elective courses in the art, music, technology, family and consumer science, or industrial arts areas can now see a preview of each specific course.
Manhart said the QuickTime movie was designed by SLHS faculty members and can be retrieved by clicking here. (Mac users will need to hold the "Control" key over the word "here" and then "Download Linked File" and view the movie from their desktop. PC users who utilize Internet Explorer need to right click on the word "here" and select "Save Target" or "Download Linked File" as your option.)
In terms of familiar features, Manhart said she and the students are continually updating student work in the "Eagle Highlights" section. Readers can view projects completed by students of Keith Karlan, woods teacher; Diana Frownfelter, family and consumer science teacher; and Tiffany Wiles, art teacher.
Another area of interest for parents of grade school students would be the "Monthly PTO newsletter" as well as the minutes from the PTO meetings. Both are featured on the "Elementary" section of the web site.
Manhart also explained that the Booster Club officers maintain their own section of the web site. Booster Club information can be located by clicking on the "Booster Club" tab on the home page.
