Dylan Gragert is a senior with countless goals and aspirations. His driving force in high school, however, is the golf program. Gragert is a four-year golfer who has placed at many tournaments and, although his high school career is coming to an end, his golfing career is not.
“I would still like to play golf [out of high school] because it’s a fun way to stay active,” said Gragert.
Gragert's college plans are already in full swing as well. He has attended Kaw Area Technical School for the past two years in the heating and air conditioning field and plans to continue the education that he has received.
“I am planning on going to Washburn to get my associate’s [degree] because I already have credits that I've earned from Vo-Tech, and it will be easier for me to get,” said Gragert.
Though Gragert shared many remembrances of his past golf career, his most favorable memory was a sweet and unusual one.
“I think the most memorable moment in my golf career was one time at Sports Center, we were having a normal practice, and I stepped up to the tee and pulled out my eight iron. After I hit the ball, the wind moved it to the right a bit and then I heard it hit the pole. I didn't know it was a hole-in-one at first, but when I found out, I was really excited,” said Gragert.
Gragert now has a plaque up on Sports Center’s board for all to see the hole and the day that he achieved that incredible feat. Along with the hole-in-one, Gragert established another goal for his golfing career.
“My goals were to get a hole-in-one which I got at the Sports Center, and take first at a tournament, which I hope to do this year,” said Gragert.
Though Gragert hasn't placed first yet, he has placed well at tournaments in the past. His freshman year he boasted a 49 at the Onaga tournament, which earned him 15th place. His junior year he accomplished a 96 at Stagg Hill, which was the third best score on the Silver Lake high school boys’ golf team for that day. Also in his junior year, he improved his Osage City tournament score by 27 strokes, shooting a 94, which beat his previous record of 121. This year, Gragert has received a 49 at Jeff West.
“The only advice I can really give to aspiring golfers in the future is simply practice, practice, practice,” said Gragert.
