Season Highlights:

Silver Lake has a very competitive boys team this year with 13 senior boys out and a total of 28 fellas on the team. We have quality athletes in all running events and we can score points in all field events except the high jump. We have taken 1st as a team in three of our four meets so far. Our 4x800 and 4x100 relay teams are undefeated so far this season. Our goal is to win the league meet in two weeks and upset perennial power Riley County. We also have a good chance to win the regional meet in three weeks at Riley County. We are hoping to qualify 12-15 athletes on the boys side and all three relays and place in the top three as a team at state.

On the girls side, we have 18 girls that are out. Injuries have taken four kids out of competition this year. We have a good group of freshmen runners that we can build around for the future and Kayla Thayer is doing very well in discus as a freshman. Our strongest competitors are Jenna Yoder & Kayleen Kelley in the shot put, Thayer in the discus, Danielle Larson in the sprints and Lynsey Salazar does a good job in all our relays. We are hoping to qualify the throwers and possibly our 4x800 relay and Danielle Larson in the sprints to the state meet.

JV Baseball vs. Pleasant Ridge- May 4

8-1 W

5-0 L

Varsity Baseball vs. Rossville- May 1

2-6 L

10-0 W

Highlights:

In game one, Rossville took advantage of some leaky Silver Lake defense late in the game to score two unearned runs in the sixth inning and four more unearned runs in the seventh to win. Tyler Roberts (4-1) took his first loss of the season despite striking out seven and walking only two. Roberts also provided the only runs for the Eagles by blasting a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth.

In game two, Brady Abrahams (4-0) shut out the Bulldogs as he gave up only two hits while striking out five in the Eagles six-inning victory. Catcher Trevor Bowers banged out two doubles and had two RBI for Silver Lake. Jordan Haverkamp also had two hits and two RBI. Cameron Renfro and Roberts each had three stolen bases for the Eagles.

Varsity Baseball vs. St. Marys- April 24

11-1 W

In game two, Tyler Roberts pushed his record to 4-0 with his five-inning, seven-hit victory over St. Marys. The Eagles banged out 12 hits with the big blows being home runs by Trevor Bowers (3 for 4, 3 RBI), Tyler Roberts (2 for 3, 3 RBI), and Dustin Gauntt. Gauntt's homer was a line-drive, grand slam that keyed the Eagles' six-run first inning.

Varsity Baseball vs. Royal Valley- April 23

13-5 W

Highlights:

The Eagles led 5-1 as Royal Valley came to bat in the bottom of the second only to have the Panthers rally to tie the game at five. Lake exploded for seven runs in the fifth, ignited by Casey Swartz's suicide squeeze bunt scoring Dustin Gauntt that gave the Eagles the lead for good. Sophomore Travis Brown (on in relief of starter Jordan Haverkamp) pitched four scoreless innings to pick up his second victory of the season. Tyler Roberts was again the star at bat with two doubles and three RBI. Haverkamp (2 RBI), Dustin Gauntt (2 RBI), Trevor Bowers (2 RBI), and Wesley Burdiek (1 RBI) each had two hits in the victory.

Varsity Baseball vs. Riley County- April 21

11-0 W (5 innings)

20-4 W (4 innings)

Highlights:

In game one, the eagles were powered by senior Trae Stebbins' two, 3-run home runs.  Senior Tyler Roberts (3.0, 0.47 ERA) got the victory as he struck out 10, walked none and gave up 5 hits in the shutout.

In the game 2 win, every lake starter had at least one hit and six players had multi-hit games. The hit parade was led by senior Cameron Renfro's 2 doubles and 4-RBI evening.  Junior eagle pitcher Wesley Burdiek was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and sophomore Jordan Haverkamp matched Burdiek with 3RBI of his own in the 20-4 victory.  On the mound, Burdiek fought his control (10 K, 7 BB) but help on for his second win of the year.
