Authorities warn against social hosting

May 14, 2009

(The following information and attachment were provided by Judy Wilson, office coordinator, for Safe Streets.)

Below is a letter endorsed by Chief of Police Ron Miller, Shawnee County Sheriff Richard Barta, Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor and Safe Streets Coalition President Barry Feaker.

As we come to the end of the school year with graduation and other celebrations, we are reminded that the use of alcohol can contribute to tragic situations.

You may have heard of the "Social Hosting" bill that just passed in the legislature regarding those providing and/or serving alcohol to a young person. This can take place at a party or by any adult at their home.

We would like to share the attached information with parents and also those in the community. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
